We're working on changes to our product that will ensure we are fully compliant with data privacy and security standards that relate to students under the age of 18. We hope to be able to confirm these changes and update our Terms of Service by May 11, 2020. Over the next 90 days we'll be validating our end-to-end policies in order to achieve industry-leading certification for data privacy.
First, let me reiterate that Mote - the product and the company - does not and will never monetize through advertising or sale of data.
Our goal is to create a product so amazingly awesome that our users (or, perhaps preferably, their bosses!) will gladly hand over modest sums in return for access to a premium version of mote. We will have more to share about this very soon...
When we launched the mote beta in March of this year (yes, that does feel like decades ago...) we never expected to see the kind of support that we've received from teachers and schools. We designed mote primarily for professionals and honestly didn't envisage the scenario of having to accommodate users under the age of 18.
Making products that can be used by minors involves a fairly significant amount of additional work to ensure we're compliant with the latest regulations in all supported jurisdictions. We're not the kind of people who take these responsibilities lightly - we want to get it right. And, as well as being compliant, it's important to us that we can offer a great product experience to under 18s.
What we're doing
Thanks for your support, and for bearing with us while we move quickly to ensure that we can meet the needs of all mote users.
